The Wachau is a stretch of the Danube Valley between Melk and Krems, a landscape of high visual quality. It preserves in an intact and visible form many traces - in terms of architecture, (monasteries, castles, ruins), urban design, (towns and villages), and agricultural use, principally for the cultivation of vines - of its evolution since prehistoric times.

The Wachau begins just where the magnificent baroque Abbey of Melk arises on the southern bank. It extends up to the city of Krems 40 km downstream. The Wachau is part of the UNESCO World heritage, a wine growing area renowned throughout the world, and one of the world’s most beautiful river valleys. It is characterised by a rich history and extraordinary wealth of cultural heritage. This unique work of art, in its entirety, is also a pleasure garden which has always inspired artists and thinkers alike. It is also a preferred meeting point for connoisseurs and epicureans from all over the world.
