Fort Jackson



This Second System fort was begun in 1808. It was an enclosed work of masonry and mud, mounting six heavy guns.
It was modernized as part of the Third System fortifications beginning in 1829.
As of 1851, it was intended to be armed with ten 24-pounder guns, three field pieces and one 8" heavy seacoast howizters, for a total of 14 guns.
