Location: kOdiakAdu is about 9kms from vEthAranyam next to agasthiyAn palli.
Thirukodi, Kuzhagar koil, Kodiyakarai, Kodiakadu are the historical names. The place of the temple is called Kodiyakkadu and the place of sea is called Kodiyakkarai.IKT rAmAyan - temple which is ssoecated with the epic rAmAyan,Rama is said to have sighted Sri Lanka from here, and his footprint is preserved nearby.TrVT - theertha vishEsha temple,very sacred to take bath at the sea here during the Dakshinayanam and Uthrayanam.

Legend:
When Vayu bhagawan carried the pot of celestial nector churned from the Milky ocean, to the Deva logam for the devars, the nector dropped a bit here and became the lingam; hence the name Amritaghateswarar.
Indhran, Brahmman, the son of Sage Swethar, Narathar, Sage Kuzhagar and Siddhars are believed to have worshipped the Lord here.
When Sundarar came alone with Cheraman Perumal Nayanar, he was deeply moved on seeing the temple alone near the sea in the midst of a forest without absolutely any dwellings around. He sang hymn on Him with a worried voice in the meaning “when there are so many places where people will rush to worship you why did you choose this lonely place”
