Kong Min Primary School (2nd Branch) (公民二校)

In the year 1955 , the Kong Min School Board of Managers acquired a piece of land at Paya Terubong Road , Penang , for the purpose of building Kong Min Second Branch School . In the beginning , a block comprising 6 classrooms and a canteen was built . The building was completed in 1958.

The number of pupils then was 370 and the teachers numbered 11 including the Headmaster.

The following year , the number of pupils increased to 486 . The school started 2 sessions - morning and afternoon .

Due to the rapid increase of pupils , the number of classrooms was inadequate and in 1961 , an additional block comprising 3 classrooms , a hall , an art room and an office was built . The cost of building the additional block was made possible though donotions totalling RM50 , 000 from the general public and financial aid from the Goverment amouting to RM20 , 000 . The foundation stone for this building was laid by Mr . Choong Han Leong, a philanthropist and a well known figure in Penang on 15 April 1961 .

Mr . Ong Choo Paik was the Board Chairman from 1958 till 1960 . Mr . Chew Siew Kim held the Board ' s Chairman post from 1961 until 24 . 1 .1964 . This post was then held by Mr . Lim Thiam Jin from 25 . 1 . 64 until 31 . 12 . 64 . Mr . Ong Choo Paik then held the post from 1965 until 1979 .

In 1969 , the number of pupils in the school increased to 821 and 19 classes were held in the school. Once again, there was a need to increase the number of classrooms. With donations totalling RM50,000 and financial aid of RM15,000 from the Government, an additional 6 classrooms and a bicycle shed was built. In that year too, the school was classified as an A grade primary school.
