Meigs Field (site) (Chicago, Illinois)

Opened in 1948 and demolished in the middle of the night on March 30, 2003, Merrill C. Meigs Field was a single strip general aviation airport convenient to downtown Chicago. It was prominently featured in the Microsoft Flight Simulator series, as well as Microsoft's Midtown Madness.

The site is now a park with a prairie theme and Daphne Garden (Sculptor Dessa Kirk).
Three figurative sculptures of Daphne are all made from scraps of discarded Cadillac cars.

  • You know it kind of ticks me off they bulldozed Meigs Field. I remember landing and taking off there in Flight Simulator 2000 when I was just a wee lad. I hoped to visit it someday and gawk at that awesome black cube of a control tower. Runway 36, you will be missed. :(
