On May 6, 1863, General R.E. Lee rallied Texas troops of Longstreet's Corps who arrived on the field just in time to push back a Union charge. Lee attempted to lead the Texans forward but was prevented from doing so as the Texans cried "Lee to the rear!" and he was taken to a safe location.
