Named after the Oregon Ducks first coach, Bill Hayward, who ran the Ducks' program from 1904 to 1947, Hayward Field is the historic epicenter of Tracktown USA. It hosts the annual Prefontaine Classic, and has hosted 3 previous US Track and Field Olympic Trials, (1972, 1976, and 1980), and will host the upcoming trials in 2008.
The Ducks football team played their games at Hayward Field until the completion of Autzen Stadium in 1967.
