This square was off by several hundred yards. I have moved it to correct position.

The station is the site of three stations: The High Level was at street level and was opened in 1874 by Cheshire Lines Comitee, and was closed by the Beeching Axe. The Low Level was opened in 1892 for what is now the Mersyrail northern line. The Deep Level station was opened in the 1970s by Mersyrail on the Wirral line loop. The Low Level and Deep Level stations survive today, and both are operated by Mersyrail.
