Worcester Bar
Worcester Bar

The site of the Worcester Bar, built to make sure the Birmingham Canal Navigations didn't lose water to the Worcester & Birmingham canal.

For 30 years, cargoes had to be manhandled across from one canal to another. Eventually, common sense prevailed, and a lock was built to allow boats to pass from one canal to the other. Now that both canals are under the control of British Waterways, and there is no difference in water levels, the gates have been removed.
