Audeju street 1

Built in the late 1960`s, this dwelling was afterwards inhabited by gypsies, who built an additional building and a wing to the small, 4 room house. After the gypsies sold the house (but left the garbage, that was there), the noble Stepini family moved in there and are still residing in the house. One of the family, Girts Edvarts, is a locally famous barber and polka dancer, he is almost 3 meters tall and can shoot lightning out of his eyes. The local inhabitants of Jelgava must bring every Sunday a sacrifice of virgin`s blood and green carrots to not upset Girts, or he will shoot lighting out of his eyes. The city was once burned completely and the only house left untouched in the debris was this house, so it is believed that Girts was once upset and shot lightning out of his eyes to punish the city, thus destroying all life within Jelgava`s borders.
There are legends, that inside a secret room in the house, the Stepini family treasures are hidden. But none of the Jelgavians have tried to find any proof, nor enter the Stepini family residence, due to the chance of being shot down by lightning from Girt`s eyes. Thus the existence, the amount and the value of the Stepini family treasures (believed to be a lawn mover made of solid goald!) is unsure up to this day.
Tourists are advised to keep distance from the house, the local institutions say that "the risk of being electrocuted is too huge, we believe that everyone should refrain from entering the proximity of the Stepini house, because they risk there lives and could die from the lightning, that comes from Girt`s eyes"
In the local folklore this house is called "Liela, pelēka un garlaicīga māja", which translates - "The house of thousand tortures". Local folklore knowers insist, that this must be the feeling of being hit by lightning, that comes from Girt`s eyes.
