Etten Island structure

The wall structure at this end of Etten was constructed with sections of local naturally occuring basalt columns. The basalt was set horizontally and fitted in place carefully to make an extreemly strong and durable retaining wall. The Japanese military used the Chuukese people as forced labor for this and other comstruction in the atoll.
