College of Engineering Pune (Pune)

College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) is one of the most prestigious engineering colleges in India. Established in 1854, it is the third oldest engineering college in Asia, after College of Engineering, Guindy (1794) and IIT Roorkee (1847). The students and alumni of COEP are colloquially referred to as COEPians.

In 2004, the institute was granted complete autonomy by the state government, and is a center of excellence in technical education. The institute now is an autonomous engineering school with permanent affiliation to the University of Pune.

COEP has an enviable location, at the confluence of two rivers, the Mula and the Mutha. The beautiful campus with buildings that are over a century old and the old cafe on the banks of the rivers manage to conceal the tremendous urban sprawl around the college.

  • I am not against any particular college as such but I do agree that the quality of education in the Bombay colleges has degraded to record lows. The syllabus is of very poor make up, the facilities are very poor and most of all and this is what matters most is that the quality of teachers is unspeakably poor. The government lethargy and poor pay scales make it very unattractive profession for a suitable candidate. In a relative comparison I do find the colleges of Pune, for all branches of study, much better.
