Innovative Machining Technology

The Innovative Machining Technology building was destroyed by fire on August 20, 2007.

(CBS 3) POTTSTOWN, Pa. Over 100 firefighters were called to the scene of a three-alarm fire at an industrial complex in Montgomery County Monday evening.

Flames broke out inside the Innovative Machining Technology machine shop building near the intersection of Industrial Highway and Keim Street in Pottstown at about 7:00 p.m.

The fire quickly grew to three alarms and smoke could be seen for miles.

"The fire progressed very rapidly through the building, it's a very old building. It was a foundry for years and it has been renovated into a machine shop," Chief Richard Lengel of the Pottstown Fire Department said.

Approximately 61 units from almost 20 area departments were able to place the intense blaze under control at about 8:40 p.m.

Chief Lengel said there is no cause for concern regarding the possibility of dangerous chemicals.

"There's a storage garage area on the west of the building that had some 55 gallon drums in it, we do not have any chemical exposures that we are aware of at this point of time, that building has burned out," Chief Lengel said.

No injuries were reported. Officials said neighboring homes were never in danger and so evacuations were not ordered.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
