Payyanur

Payyannur, the name derived from payyan[Subrahmanyan] and uru[land]meaning the land of Lord Subrahmanya. It is so called because here situated the famous temple of Lord Subrahmanya.This include in the three famous temples of Subrahmanya in the Kannur district. The other two are the Peralasseri temple and the Makreri temple.
Here lived several social workers Peeranki Nambeesan,M.K.Raghavan, T.Govindan,Artist Ganesh, Kunhimangalam Narayanan master, famous architect etc.Kandoth in Payyannur is famous for pottery. Theru attained fame by the manufacture of ghadi.
Uliyathu kadavu is well known in history as a result of the epic salt sathyagraha.Payyanur provides a relaxing place to the tourists.Gandhi park situated in the middle of the town exibits a good piece of art as a result of the good work done by DTPC secretary Raveendran Periyaram.Nearby place Kunhimangalam is famous as the land of mangroos.

Ramanthali Sree Muchilot Bagavathi Temple
Ramanthali [near Payyanur]also came into the fore in 2008 January as a result of the Muchilot Bagavathi Perumkaliyattam.Varachuvaykkal and Kalavaraniraykkal are already over. Muchilot Bagavathi is one of the most popular deity worshipped in North Kerala.Historian Nandakumar Koroth in his work 'Theyyam: Anustanangalum Samoohika Prasakthiyum'describes the importance of Muchilot Bagavathi in the social formation of North Kerala. There is a practice for suppling food to thousands of devotees in connection with the Muchilot Bagavathi. Another work 'Muchilot Bagavathi' narrates the origin and establishment of Muchilot Kavu in different parts of Kannur and Kasaragod District. Highly decorative figure of Muchilot Bagavathi attracts the minds of devotees and the men of esthetic sense. In Cherukunnu and Kannapuram yearly Muchilot Bagavathi Theyyam performed. But in several other Kavus [worshipping place] Muchilot Bagavathi Theyyam performing in a gap of 12 to several years like one at Kayyur[near Nileshwar] in Jan 2008 after a term of 47 years. Perumkaliyattam at Muyyam near Taliparamba was a great experience to the devotees in the month of December 2007.

This is my native place.Now im in other state.but payyannur is a most wonderful place.And also there is good culture.i very much like in my native... i m really missing.................

Refer the comment by the doctor who hates payyanur. Iam sure that he must have indulged in some malpractice and got punished for that by the ppl.Payyanurians r a viglilant lot. Any way, we dont miss u doctor!

Payyannur is the Birth place of Subrahmania Shenayi, who was the President of Payyanur Grama Panchayat and a famous leader of CPI(M).
Payyannur is a beautiful place. And i also agree with Mr. CP Nair. Because this is nice place with nice people.They are people with heart when compired with Southe Keralites.

Payyannur is beautifull place located in kannur .It has got a great place in history where Gandhiji led salt satyagraha take place. It is superb tourist spot.
Ezhimala Naval Academy is located here.
