Resolute Desk (Washington D.C. (District of Columbia))

The Oval Office desk assigned to the President of the United States.

The "Resolute Desk" was a gift from Queen Victoria in 1879, made from the timbers of the decommissioned ship HMS Resolute. Almost every US President since Rutherford B. Hayes has used this desk somewhere in the White House, although it remained upstairs in the Presidents' private quarters until John F Kennedy moved it to the Oval Office.

A second desk made from the HMS Resolute sits in Buckingham Palace.

I think as an interior feature, this is inappropirate for an arial shot of the white house. Just a thought.

I would object on the basis that the desk is not a permanent fixture. Each president is permitted to pick his own desk and furnishings for the office. Although the Resolute Desk has been the most popular, it is not permanent, therefore, I believe this marker is not appropriate.

I think this is a notable place for WikiMapia:

1) It is a notable fixture of White House, as it is the most obvious sign and symbol of the President's power.
2) Arguably the most important desk in the country, if not one of the most important in the world.
3) It is shown frequently in various forms of media.
4) Relative location of Desk in relation to rest of White House.
