Two-mile-long. The new Queen Isabella Causeway was constructed in 1974 and replaced the original Queen Isabella Causeway constructed in 1954, which became known as the Old Fishing Pier.

A portion of the Queen Isabella Causeway collapsed on Sept. 15, 2001, killing 8 people. Three people survived the fall into the Laguna Madre and were rescued by local fishermen. The collapse was a result of a barge crash into the pilings. The bridge reopened over 2 months later, and the bridge was renamed the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge, in memory of those who lost their lives that day. | ||||
