Ponnuru is Mandal head quarter (Mdl code-48 of Guntur Dt, AP) for the following 20 villages :Aremanda, Brahmana kodur, Chintalapudi, Dandamudi, Doppalapudi, Jadavalli, Jupudi, Kondamudi, Mamillapalli, Mannava, Mulukuduru, Munipalle, Nandur, Nidubrole (u), Patchala tadiparru, Ponnuru (town) (u), Upparapalem, Vaddemukkala, Vallabharao palem, Vellalur. Ponnur is also known as China Kasi as well as swarnapuri in olden days,because it is having ancient temples like veeyilingala temple (1000 lingas of lord siva [lord of peace]) and very big rock statues af Anjaneya swamy (lord of courage)and garuth mantha.

Ponnur is also famous for its kind of Churches.

  • Nidubrolu and Ponnur are the towns in Andhra Pradesh India situated nearly 20 to 30 km from Southern sea cost town of Bapatla and Guntur(Business Center and District HQ). The small river Tungabhadra pass through this town. Both Ponnur & Nidubrolu are together called as Janta gramalu (twin villages). As of 2001 India census, they had a population of 56,504. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Ponnur has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 64%.
