Kamp Kill Kare

Built for Timothy Woodruff, lieutenant governor under Teddy Rosevelt, in 1898. Woodruff renamed adjacent Sumner Lake, after his wife Cora, LAKE KORA. Land had been part of William W. Durant's holdings including nearby Sagamore and Uncas. Later purchased by Alfred G. Vanderbilt and then sold again to Francis P. Garvan. In 1915 after a fire Garvan had John Russell Pope design the current camp.
