The Union Pacific Railroad's Sunset Route crosses the Continental Divide at an altitude of 4584'. This line was built by the Southern Pacific during 1881. Amtrak's Sunset Limited travels on this line. America's railroads built 31 crossings over the Divide, and this is one of 10 that are still in use.
