Thekkan Parumala St Gregorios Orthodox Chruch peroorkada

The ‘THEKKAN PARUMALA’ of today took birth as a Chapel of the St.George Orthodox Church, Palayam (the Cathedral Church of to-day) in November 1976 with Parumala Thirumeni as its Patron to cater to the religious needs of the members of that Parish in around Ambalamuuku, Peroorkada Kowdiar and their suburbs.
In May 1985, the Chapel was elevated to status of an independent Parish under the Trivandrum Diocese. The existence of this Parish in the name of Parumala Thirumeni came to be known to many through testimonies of the beneficiaries.
The new Church building was concecrated on the 12th and 13th January 2001 by His Holiness The Catholicose of the East, Baselious Marthoma Mathews II wherein HG Thomas Mar Athanasious and H.G.Yacoob Mar Iranious and H.G.Mathews Mar Epiphanious were co-celebrants.

The Catholicose installed the Holy Remains of Parumala Thirumeni in the Church during the consecration rites. Satisfied that this is a pilgrim center of the people from far and near, His Holiness The Catholicose of the East, Baselious Marthoma Mathews II have gracefully conferred upon the Parish the order of THEKKAN PARUMALA’ on 13 th January, 2001 at the meeting held after the consecration rites.

The Parish has a membership of over 400 families to day. About ten percent of the income of the Parish is spent for charitable purpose.
