Branshaw Golf Club

There can be no finer way to spend part of your time or stay in the land of the famous Bronte family than to visit one of the most exhilarating up-land heath golf courses in the country - Branshaw Golf Club.

Just five minutes drive from Haworth, the heart of the Bronte country, Branshaw lies high on the moors overlooking the valleys and gives breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills and moor land.

Branshaw Golf Club was founded by a group of enthusiasts in 1912 on Branshaw moor in the heart of some of the loveliest scenery in Yorkshire. From the very beginning the Branshaw ideal has been to provide golf at a reasonable cost.

Part of the course was laid out by Dr Mackenzie, golf architect, and James Braid the golfing 'legend'. It was originally nine holes and built on land leased from the Duke of Devonshire. By 1925 the club had acquired more land and began a major project to extend the course to 18 holes resulting in a yardage of 5,460. This was completed in 1931. In subsequent years the club bought the land formerly leased from the Duke of Devonshire from the Chatsworth Estates, the club now owns all the land. By October 1975 the club had yet again extended by buying a further 13 acres to extend the yardage to 5,790 and covered 70 acres.
