This private lane was the centre of politics and the media. The Former Minister of Justice and political icon - Felix Dias Bandaranaike (of the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Government) lived at the top of Maha Nuge Gardens. His uncle, Sammy Dias Bandaranaike owned several properties down this lane. The legendary Sri Lankan broadcaster, Vernon Corea of Radio Ceylon/Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation lived at No 5. The famous Sri Lankan pianist and musician, Elmer De Haan also lived in Maha Nuge Gardens for a while.
