Bish Cove LNG Terminal site

A liquified natural gas (LNG) export terminal is planned for this cove. Originally planned as an import terminal (where the gas would be delivered by tanker, vaporized, then sent via pipeline to North American markets), the discovery of huge gas reserves in BC and Texas plus fundamental changes in world markets led to the company reversing its plans. It will now export 5 million tonnes of LNG per year to Asian markets, starting in late 2013.

The decision to export rather than import means a doubling of construction and permanent jobs.

Pacific Trail Pipelines, a 50/50 partnership between Galveston LNG Inc. and Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG), is developing the natural gas transmission pipeline system from Summit Lake to Kitimat, British Columbia to serve Kitimat LNG. The $1-billion, 463-kilometre pipeline will provide the Terminal with a direct connection to the Spectra Energy Transmission pipeline system and excellent access to natural gas supplies in British Columbia and Alberta.
