Famous for being the place from which a US soldier shot a spaniard soldier during the Spanish-American War (1898) more than a mile and a half away to the NE. There is now a monument, not for the gringo's aim, but for the unknown soldier (La Tumba del Soldado Desconocido), between Palomas and Yauco City. home.coqui.net/sarrasin/monu.htm#anchor640192
