Major stop for the Great Northern Railroad.
Named in 1891 for Peter P. Shelby, general manager of the Montana-Central Railroad.
Geologist Gordon Campbell is credited with the dicovery of oil in 1921 or 1922.
Famous site of the Jack Demsey / Tommy Gibbons prize fight, July 4, 1923.
