Thought to be the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)'s grandfather, Ibn Abd al-Munaf, this mosque was erected in 1850 on the site of a 12th century edifice. It is a reminder of the ancient ties between Arabia and Gaza, traditionally a trading port and an important stop along the trade and spice route, and a Mediterranean outlet for products from the Arabian Peninsula. Sadly, it was bombed by British forces, although it was restored by the Islamic High Council at the beginning of the 1920s.
