Australian American War Memorial

The Australian American War Memorial is a large memorial in the Canberra suburb of Russell. It is 78 metres high, and is visible from much of central Canberra. An eagle sits at the top of the tall pole. Text on a plaque on the memorial reads:

IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE VITAL HELP GIVEN BY THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DURING THE WAR IN THE PACIFIC 1941-45 UNVEILED BY HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II FEBRUARY 16th 1954

This monument is often known as 'Bugs Bunny' as the eagle's wings are virticle above it making it look like rabbit's ears. The eagle was originally designed with outspread wings, however this was changed due to problems with transportation.

i've been here, and had a close up look w/ the submarine, canyon etc. of course picture taken. (1988)

The eagle also looks similar to the KAOS symbol from get smart, leading to the Defence department buildings in the area to sometimes be called KAOS headquarters.
