Depends on your age.
When I was growing up in Gora Bazaar, it was the only theatre around.
My earliest (vague) movies were seen here (too young to retain much): Sampoorna Ramayan, Navrang, Paigham, Gharana, Chhote Nawab (Mehmood), Reporter Raju (Feroze Khan), Zabak, Nagin, Manmauji
Later years: Bharosa, Nartaki, Goonj Uthi Shenai, Aarti, Gehra Daag, Saanh Aur Savera, Ganga Ki Laharen, Bees Saal Baad
Rocking: Ek Musafir Ek Hasina, Taj Mahal, Sangam, April Fool, Jab Jab Phool Khile,Phir Wahi Dil Laya Hoon, Mere Sanam, Jaal, Brahmachari, Geet Gaya Patharone (Jeetendra would become the craze soon), Man Ka Meet (people walked out of the theatre wowed by the handsome new villain Vinod Khanna), Jigri Dost, Humjoli, Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke, Jeene Ki Raah, An
Adventurous: As High School Student, with friends only, to see Matinee Revivals: Pocket Maar, Solwan Saal, Kala Bazaar,
Some Morning Shows: Elvis Presley's Girls, Girls, Girls, and Fun in Acapulco. Soem Jerry Lewis Movies. Some Laurel and Hardy movies.
Grew up on a diet of Hindi movie entertainment. Thanks to Mrinalini.
Mrinalini was magical. The Balcony. The Ladies Section (for women and children) at an incredibly low price (compared to the ground floor). The rushing out of the theatre in order to make it the foyer downstairs to buy the songbook. Occasionally, stopping by the song-book seller outside who would have a whole lot of books spread out on a cloth on the ground. Collecting lyrics was a hobby, writing in the notebook with pictures. Scratching away the lyrics while the songs played on Radio Ceylon. Thanks to the Internet, can just print the lyrics off now (yes, still continuing), and that, too, in English.
Mrinalini brought to life the songs we thrilled to, repeatedly on the radio.
Leela theater was too far. Jaya would come much later.
Yes, Mrinalini was an experience to be cherished by a generation of kids and their mothers, and the fathers who occasionally joined their families to see the weekend movie.
