Kurnool City

1st capital of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is one of the first planned towns in India. It is a Municipal Corporation.
Brief History:-
Kurnool as a village had existed for 2000 years. It is the only inhabited place between two rivers. Kurnool was a major fort during the reign of the Vijayanagar emperors. There is still a grand citadel called KONDAREDDY BURUJU to testify the glory it enjoyed in Vijayanagar times, but it is not certain how the watchtower got its name. According to one old story the fort was built by the king Konda Reddy. During the British Raj Kurnool expanded and schools, churches, etc. were built.
Kurnool is the gateway to rayalaseema and the largest city of rayalaseema with a population around 6.5 lakhs having many educational institutes and also major hub for banking and insurance companies. The original name of Kurnool was “Kandenaolu”, which literally means "lubricating village". Bullock carts that came from far-off places to dig sand in the rivers (that ran on both sides of the village), used to stop by to lubricate their wheels. The name was changed to "Kurnool" when the British took over the town.

Kurnool city clearly reflects the rapid development of A.P. The river Tungabhadra flows through the city and river Krishna is towards north. Kurnool boasts of good educational institutions, Kurnool medical college (City is also famous for good Medical Treatment and also for great doctors too…), an engineering college, Montessori institutions to name a few. There is an Engineering college here which is the top in Rayalaseema region of A.P. The name of the college is..... G.PULLA REDDY ENGINEERING COLLEGE.... There is a hillock named JAGANNATHA GATTU, on climbing this we can have a very nice view of the whole city. There is a temple and masjid over this hillock, it is also has second city in AP to have Minorities (Muslims- Who Speak Telugu only).
Sai Baba Temple on banks of Tungabhadra River near District Court (famous as Dakshina Shirdi), this also one of the very old "Shiridi Sai Baba Temple", the Statue of Shiridi Sai Baba was place in temple before Shiridi Sai Baba samsthan, Shiridi… One should visit this Temple……
Last but not the least: There are many cinema theatres to watch out and good restaurants like Mourya Inn3 Star Hotel), National Restaurant and rayalaseema cuisine is the favorite of many.

Jagannada gattu is a hillock on which a beautiful Lord Shiva was relocated from a submerged area under Sri Sailam Project over the Krishna River. The temple was originally built by Chalukya Dynasty 400 years ago. The Diety in the form Siva Lingam in black granite and about 6 foot tall. A wonderful feat was done by rlocating the ancient temple. The present Dist Collector is taking steps to make this place as an tourist place. The saddest part in the relocated temple is panneling the sanctum with ceramic tiles which affected the antiquity of the temple. catch me at yeluru.prakasam#sbi.co.in | ||||

Good to see so many comments sorry complements abt kurnool. most of them saying I Love Kurnool, even I cant control saying that as its my birth place.I dont see these many comments in any other town in rayalaseem.And I would like to add one more good place in kurnool,Birla temple papularly known as Satya narayana swamy temple.and pump house at thunga badhra bank is nice to see. | ||||

Kurnool is my native land. Here atmosphre is very good throughout the year compared to other places in the state. People here are very cool, friendly and cooperature in nature.
