Fort Funston
Hangglider mecca, dog park with access to fresh drinking water for dogs and beach. Great place to fly a kite, remote control airplane, etc.
Named for Major Gen. Fred Funston who had received the Medal of Honor for his role in the Battle of Calumpit (1899). In 1902 Funston publicly admitted to (boasted of, actually) his war crimes against the Philipinos. In the spirit of "so are they all honorable men," Mark Twain published a critique of Funston's war record entitled "A Defense of General Funston."
