Monocacy Bridge - B&O Railroad

The Monocacy Bridge was originally constructed as a three span wood deck truss covered bridge, each span 110 feet long. It was soon replaced with a Bollman truss bridge, which was blown up by Confederate forces on September 8, 1862 and repaired in less than ten days.

The bridge and the nearby railroad buildings were heavily damaged in the Battle of Monocacy on July 9, 1864. The Bollman truss bridge was replaced with a Steel truss bridge.
