Wrangel Island

An island in the Arctic Ocean, between the Chukchi and East Siberian Seas, and belonging to the Russian Federation. Mammoths survived here in dwarf form until about 1700 BC. Its abundance of plant species has led to its being listed as a World Heritage Site. It is about 7,600 square km in extant, making it the 92nd largest island in the world.
