West Seattle is, in fact, much larger than shown and is home to 20% of the population of Seattle. In spite of being the birthplace of modern Seattle, it remains somewhat isolationist. |
I am one of the masses, broke, unemployed, living under the poverty line, and I live on California Ave in an apartment that I pay $420 a month for. There's plenty of non-affluent people here too, due to the buses, being 10 minutes from downtown, relatively low cost of housing...

Only a small portion of West Seattle has the affluent feel (Alki and North Admiral neighborhood). If Alki and the North Admiral neighborhood represented the entirety of West Seattle I wouldn't have moved here--too cool and tan for my native Seattlelite roots (born and raised in Ballard). For the most part, the rest of West Seattle is fairly down-to-earth, regardless of their income. It's got a small town, island feel in many neighborhoods (Vashon not Martha's Vineyard). |
