Khanderi Sea island Fort

Maratha Navy Fort built to keep watch on Siddis in Mumbai in 17th century. This makeover fort was made to block British, Portuguese and Siddi's joint efforts to control trade to Arabia and Europe.
In 1998, Khanderi island was renamed Kanhoji Angre Island in honour of the Maratha General Kanhoji Angre.

  • this fort has search light which is meticulously maintained by cleaning with petrol. Pople from Thal Village visit this fort on Holi.Villagers are allowed to sit in any of the boats and are taken to this fort. Fishermen stay their at nights when they have to take their nets out of sea at nights.Its fun to be in middle of sea at night.U just hear waves and its dark out everywhere except moonlight which reflects in sea water
